Part two of the dangerous sex series is autoerotic asphyxiation and erotic asphyxiation. If you missed my post on blood play you can see it here! Sometimes our fetishes can be quite dangerous and that is why I decided to start this series. So those who can’t resist erotic asphyxiation in the bedroom can enjoy it the safest way possible.

I have chosen to use the term ‘erotic asphyxiation’ but other terms can be used to describe it. Including asphyxiophilia, hypoxyphilia and breath play. Erotic asphyxiation is the act of restricting oxygen to the brain for sexual enjoyment. A person that performs this act on themselves is using autoerotic asphyxiation.

Some risks involved with erotic asphyxiation include:

⦁ Death
⦁ Cardiac arrest
⦁ Heart attack
⦁ Coma
⦁ Serious criminal charges
⦁ Cumulative brain damage
⦁ Stroke
⦁ Seizure
⦁ Larynx fracture

The risks involved are incredibly high. Although I will list the best ways to reduce them, it is impossible to completely remove them. From either autoerotic asphyxiation or erotic asphyxiation.

How to reduce the risks of erotic asphyxiation and autoerotic asphyxiation:

Safe Signal

You will not be able to verbally communicate with your partner. For this reason, you should prepare a very clear signal for them to stop. A hand sign or tapping them are both options you could consider.

No Restraints

It may be tempting to get out your restraints so your partner has total control. Please do not restrain your hands. No matter how much you trust your partner they can not know what is going on inside your body.

Discuss First

You should never surprise your partner with erotic asphyxiation. Discuss it first and make sure they have time to prepare themselves before you perform the act. Even if you have enjoyed it many times in the past.

Sober

Make sure you are completely sober when doing autoerotic asphyxiation. Ensure you are both sober if you are enjoying it as a couple. Not only will this make you both more aware, it will stop the increased risk caused by drugs or alcohol.

Prepare For An Emergency

Have a phone charged and close by in case of an emergency. If you’re performing autoerotic asphyxiation you could arrange to call a friend after.

Socks & Slippery Floors

Combing socks with a slippery floor is an accident waiting to happen. Make sure you have a good grip beneath your feet.

Slippery Hitch

Learn the slippery hitch knot if you use ropes etc for asphyxiation. This knot is easily released by pulling on one end of the rope. You can find a video tutorial for this knot at the bottom of the page.

Depending upon your method and the reason behind your fetish, there are safer alternatives you could consider. Although these may not have the same thrill they do involve almost no risk.

Safer alternatives are:

Verbal Control

If your desire to perform erotic asphyxiation is due to control then you may enjoy verbal control. You could tell your partner how to breathe, for instance, slow and deep or fast and short breaths. You could even take it one step further and tell them when to breathe. Choose a suitable punishment if they disobey.

Gentle Choke

You can grasp your hand around your partner’s neck without cutting off their oxygen supply. You could also have them hold their breath whilst you have your hand there. This will give a very similar effect to erotic asphyxiation.

Breathless Orgasm

If you are a fan of autoerotic asphyxiation then you can hold your breath as you reach the point of orgasm. This will have a similar effect of dizziness and euphoria without any of the risks. This is also something a couple can do together.

Nose Pinch

After warning your partner, you could pinch their nose for a few seconds whilst their mouth is occupied. Perhaps through oral sex or a gag. As long as they are not restrained this is safe. They can remove the gag or penis from their mouth should they need to breathe.
