Smut Marathon – Round 2 Musings

Smut Marathon – Round 2 Musings

The second round of the Smut Marathon has been and gone. Which means I can finally talk about it! The challenge this time was to write a max. 100 word micro fiction story including one of the metaphors from the previous round. This was my entry:

A Masterpiece

The field contained only a singular tree’s 8 o’clock shadow. His firm order for her to strip echoed in its expanse. Obediently baring her body, she absorbed the evening sun’s blaze. Her head swinging back as her toes nestled between juicy blades of grass.

He moved masterfully around her. Not once allowing his swinging arm to put her in shadow. Red marks appeared like ripe summer berries, slashes of their juice decorating her skin. Burning flesh soothed in the summer night air as her cries intertwined with a Goldfinch’s song.

As the moon rose behind them, his flogger painted her cunt into a sunset, glowing between the mountain-purple shadows of her thighs.

She was a masterpiece.

Highlighted in pink is the metaphor I used, by Felisha Moon.

The feedback I received was, for the most part, negative. It was however very helpful. This was my first attempt at microfiction and it seems I forgot to include quite necessary things like a story or characters. I also have a habit of using excessive amounts of full stops, when a comma would be better placed. This is a habit I have noticed myself recently throughout my blog and have now had the push I need to address it.

Despite the negative feedback, which I agree with entirely, I actually do still like what I wrote. My Round 2 results were as bad as they could get but I know that what I wrote was good for me. I have made it through to Round 3 purely due to my score from the first round so I am prepared and happy to leave the competition in the next knock out round, which will be Round 4. I am well aware that I am out of my depth; when I received the third assignment last night, I didn’t even know what it meant!

It has been really sad to see so many of my favourite bloggers leave the competition in this round. My feeling is that this is because sex blogging and smut writing are not at all the same. It is also, of course, completely subjective.

Before I go I wanted to give a shout out to the entries I enjoyed the most this round. These were, in no particular order:

  • Pick Me by Alaya Minette
  • Overdue Fine by Kitt Wolf
  • All Aboard by Su Orwell
  • Name Calling by Beatrix Bottomsby
  • Sudden Storm by Lisa Oliver
  • Card Catalogue by Helen Scott

Congratulations to everyone who made it through to the next round! I am so excited to read all of the entries and if you aren’t part of the Smut Marathon then please do get involved by casting your vote on April 1st!

  1. Well said Aurora. I didn’t notice Tiggs’ feedback this time. Was it there?
Round three has also got me slightly flummoxed. x

Thank you! I didn’t notice feedback from Tiggs this time around either. And it seems I am fortunate to not be the only one confused by the third round, as now Marie has explained it better. I’ve got lots of ideas that I am hoping to work on whilst we’re at Eroticon. Only 3 more days!

      Aurora x

  2. Good for you for always being happy with what you have written, no matter what. That is how it should be!
You are right, sex blogging and smut writing are not the same, but even so, anyone can do either. That is one of my goals with the Smut Marathon – to get different kinds of writers together and to let them learn something through writing for the assignments. I wish you good luck with the third assignment. I am sure you will manage!

PS1: It was lovely meeting you at Eroticon and I hope we can talk some more next time.
PS2: Unfortunately, Tiggs had no time to do feedback for the second round due to personal circumstances.

It has definitely been successful in introducing me to new considerations when writing and I hope there will at least be some improvement. It was wonderful to meet you too! Hopefully I will see you there again next year x
